We can help you through this difficult process by obtaining the Grant of Probate on your behalf.

We will also undertake the collecting and distributing of assets.

Fees for applying for the Grant of Probate:

  • Using IHT205

    £1000 plus 20% VAT
  • Using IHT400

    £1500 plus 20% VAT

Fees for collecting and distributing the assets:

We charge the time taken on your matter using the traditional hourly rate plus up to 1% of the gross value of the estate plus VAT. The hourly rates vary from £220 – £300 (plus 20% VAT )

We anticipate this will take between 5 and 15 hours work. Total costs estimated at £1,100 – 4,500 (plus 20% VAT) plus the percentage uplift.

The exact cost will depend on the individual circumstances of the matter. For example, if there is one beneficiary and no property, costs will be at the lower end of the range. If there are multiple beneficiaries, a property and multiple bank accounts, costs will be at the higher end.

We will handle the full process for you. This costs guide is for estates where there is a valid Will and there are no disputes. Intestacy cases can result in more work. Disbursements in addition to this fee:
  • Probate application fee of £273 (no VAT) 
  • Certified copies of the Grant £1.50 each (no VAT)
  • Office Copy Entries to establish ownership of property £3 each.  If a plan is required a further £3 per plan.
  • Bankruptcy-only Land Charges Department searches (£2 per beneficiary) 

Trustee Act notices in the London Gazette and local Newspaper approximately £300 (TBC) . Disbursements are costs related to your matter that are payable to third parties, such as court fees. We handle the payment of the disbursements on your behalf to ensure a smoother process.

Potential additional costs:

  • If there is no will or the estate consists of any share holdings (stocks and bonds) there are likely to be additional costs that could range significantly depending on the estate and how it is to be dealt with. We can give you a more accurate quote once we have more information. 
  • If any additional copies of the grant are required, they will cost £1.50 (no VAT) (1 per asset usually). 
  • Dealing with the sale or transfer of any property in the estate is not included.

How long will this take?

On average, estates that fall within this range are dealt with within 6-12 months. Typically, obtaining the grant of probate in modest estates takes 8-10 weeks.
